Android was installed on 88% of smartphones shipped globally during the third quarter of 2016, according to a report from Strategy Analytics. The OS has consistently been the largest in the global handset market, but it did experience a notable level of growth during the quarter.

Between July and September, iOS fell to a 12% share, partly due to a lack of shipments in Africa and China. BlackBerry and Windows Phone had negligible shares during the quarter.
There were 375 million shipments during Q3, up 6% year-on-year from 354.2 million. Android shipments were up 10.3% and iOS shipments were down 5.2%.
