While LG may have given up on its modular design theme with the G6 this year, Motorola plans to continue with the modular theme for at least the next few years. Speaking to the media in Pakistan today, Lenovo General Manager for Middle East, Sharay Shams revealed that Motorola plans to launch no less than 12 new Moto Mods this year.

Shams assured consumers that Motorola will continue to support the Moto Mods ecosystem at least for the next three years, which means all Moto Mods currently available and those that will be released later this year will be fully compatible with future Motorola flagship smartphones as well. Of course, this also means that future Moto flagships will continue to have the pogo pin connectors at the back.

The Moto Mods, according to Shams, have been received quite well by consumers around the world. He revealed that the company has sold 3 million Moto Z units so far, out of which half of the units were bundled with one or Moto Mod.

An earlier report published late last year had also claimed that Motorola plans to release 12 new Moto Mods per year, which means the company will be launching at least 36 new Moto Mod accessories over the next three years.
