An entity owned by the MLB and Disney, BAMtech, has signed a deal with Riot Games that’ll see it become the exclusive provider of League of Legends tournaments. BAMtech is going to spend at least $300 million through 2023 on the streaming rights, reports the Wall Street Journal.
With that expense, BAMtech gains the right to “stream and monetize” tournament content. BAMtech intends to launch a streaming service dedicated to the game and it’ll release apps for smartphones, PCs, and “other devices.”
Distribution across existing platforms like YouTube and Twitch will also be handled by BAMtech.
Revenue will initially go to BAMtech, though some will be shared with Riot once the revenue surpasses the initial investment.
