Taiwan-based Mitac International has recently landed orders from an US-based client for its Internet of Things (IoT) automotive applications, especially software for car fleet management, noted company president Billy Ho adding that the business will start contributing revenues and profits in 2017 and grow at least 10 fold from 2016.
Mitac has already transformed from a PC hardware company to become an integrated solution provider and is currently focusing on two major businesses: the cloud computing server and software-hardware-integrated solutions for automotive IoT. Mitac’s close partnerships with car vendors built up by its GPS business also helped the company expand into the automotive IoT market.
Mitac has already signed contracts with the US-based client to provide an electronic device similar to airplane’s black box to prevent drivers from overwork and Mitac also has software to track driving time and mileage.
Mitac will also unveil related solutions around CES 2017.
In addition, Mitac’s portable navigation device (PND) brand subsidiary Magellan’s SmartGPS system has also entered the supply chain of North America’s Hertz and Jaguar Land Rover as well as Japan-based Subaru and car supplier Clarion.
