Following recent issues with Play Store access, where some Chromebook users reported that they are being blocked from download Microsoft’s Office apps and getting error messages like “unsupported on this device”, Microsoft has now issued a statement.
The company said that Office apps will continue to work on Chrome OS devices, but since the Google Play is still in beta on Chrome OS, they are partnering with Google to deliver the best experience for Chromebook users.
Our strategy has not changed. Office for Android is supported on Chrome OS devices via the Google Play Store. While Google Play on Chrome OS is in beta, we are partnering with Google to deliver the best experience for Chromebook users and plan to make the apps available on all compatible devices by general availability.
But there is one small catch. If your Chromebook has a display larger than 10.1-inch, then you will need a subscription to gain all Office 365 features, including the ability to create, edit or print documents. Otherwise, you will be using a restricted version of the suite.
