Microsoft Releases Windows 10 Redstone 2 Build 14971

220

Microsoft has just rolled out a brand-new Windows 10 build for PCs enrolled in the fast ring, so mobile users need to wait a little bit longer to get an update.

Windows 10 build 14971 is part of the Creators Update due in early 2017 and comes with options to read EPUB books in Microsoft Edge. The browser was already capable of opening PDF documents, so Microsoft is pushing it one step forward by making it possible to open EPUB files as well.

“When you open an unprotected e-book in Microsoft Edge, you will be taken into a customizable reading experience where you can change the font and text size and choose between 3 themes: light, sepia, and dark. As you read, you can leave bookmarks. To navigate through an e-book, you can use the table of contents or seek bar at the bottom of the browser. And you can also search for words or phrases and use Cortana to define specific words,” the company explains.

Paint 3D Preview now comes built-in

The same build also comes with Paint 3D Preview app pre-installed, replacing the default Paint that’s been around for so long. Starting with this build, when you open Paint from Start, you are provided directly with the new 3D version. Paint 3D Preview is currently available in English, but other languages will be shipped soon too.

Additionally, the same build also includes an important change concerning the command prompt. PowerShell officially replaces the Command Prompt in the Win + X menu, in File Explorer’s File menu, and in the context menu.

And last but not least, Microsoft is also shipping the first preview of Get Office version 2.0, the application that’s supposed to make it easier for users to purchase Office. The new version comes with improved experience, such as access to documents, shortcuts to launch apps, and more, so it’s no longer just a collection of links as it was the case of the original one.

There are also some known bugs and more improvements, so you can check out the full changelog in the box below – keep in mind, however, that this build is exclusive to PCs.
