It can be debated whether Chrome is ultimately superior to Edge, but it’s pretty clear that in terms of battery life, Chrome isn’t superior. Google’s browser has failed in a number of battery tests, but it recently performed better thanks to some improvements. Microsoft put Chrome’s improvement in perspective.
Upon re-running Google’s test, which looked at how long the browser could play video, Microsoft found Edge was still on top using the latest version of Windows 10.
Microsoft’s test used the same video from Vimeo as Google’s, but it included results for all of the top browsers.
Here are the results:
- Microsoft Edge: 8 hours 47 minutes
- Opera: 7 hours 8 minutes
- Google Chrome: 6 hours 3 minutes
- Mozilla Firefox: 5 hours 11 minutes
Edge was found to be superior in terms of browser efficiency.
