It seems Microsoft might be ditching Edge, Microsoft is working on a new browser, based on Chromium. Microsoft is working internally to convert the main browser in Windows 10 to the Chromium engine, which is used among others in Google’s Chrome browser, but also in Opera and Vivaldi.
Windows Central learned this from Microsoft. There are not many details yet. For example, it is not known whether the future default browser in Windows 10 will be called Edge or will be renamed as the rendering engine changes.
It is expected that the new Microsoft browser will be released in the first half of 2019 – probably with a corresponding Windows 10 update. The edge browser has never enjoyed great popularity. At first, the browser was notable for its lack of features, which should be a matter of course for modern browsers. But sometimes it takes several months for standard functions to be integrated into the browser. First and foremost, edge users complain about a lack of stability and low browser speed.
So far, Microsoft has not officially confirmed the move to Chromium. It is expected that Microsoft will officially announce the plan in the coming weeks.
