Mesa 13.0.6 Graphics Stack Promises Better Vulkan Drivers, o…

202

Collabora’s Emil Velikov informed the community about the upcoming availability of the sixth maintenance update to the Mesa 13.0 3D Graphics Library for Linux-based operating systems.

Mesa 13.0.6 should arrive soon and promises to be a major patch adding over 100 improvements to various of the shipped graphics drivers, including all Gallium ones, for which various reported crashes have been resolved, as well as r300 with a fix for an old regression that should improve support for BE hardware.

“On the GLX/EGL front we have crash fixes in GLX/DRI3, ResetNotificationStrategy matches the shared context for EGL, and eglQuerySurface returns correct geometry when running under X11/DRI3,” reads the mailing list announcement for the Release Candidate version of Mesa 13.0.6.

Intel ANV and Radeon RADV Vulkan driver improvements

It also looks like the Mesa 13.0.6 update will include over a dozen improvements and bug fixes for both Intel ANV and Radeon RADV Vulkan drivers. The Intel OpenGL drivers received some attention providing better support for Sandy Bridge chipsets, better handling of GPUs without LLC (Last Level Cache), and improved swizzle clears.

The RadeonSI graphics driver has been updated as well in Mesa 13.0.6 with improvements for Tessellation shaders on both Stoney and Carrizo GPUs, and the Nouveau video drivers for Nvidia graphics cards bring compute shader improvements on various nvc0 devices.

As mentioned before, the Mesa 13.0.6 patch should be out very soon, in the coming days, but there’s no release date set at the moment of writing this article. If things change and the Mesa developers publish the final release of Mesa 13.0.6, we’ll update the article. However, Mesa 13.0.6 could be the last in the series, so upgrading to Mesa 17 is highly recommended. In the meantime, you can test drive the Release Candidate.
