Meizu held a conference yesterday where three new products were introduced the Meizu X, Meizu 6 Pro Plus, and its new UI dubbed as the Flyme OS 6.0. Thus the company decided to wrap the year up with a new flagship, new operating system, and a new budget-friendly handset with amazing features.

Meizu X Review

Meizu launched a new mid-range smartphone called simply the Meizu X, but we know this phone is also known as the Meizu M3X or Meizu Blue Charm X. We are familiar with it, as the Meizu X has leaked for a few times. First, we saw its packaging, but it didn’t hint at any design element. Later the front side of the phone spotted in a spy photo. Finally, there was a back side photo leaked as well, but now we can say it was fake.

Meizu X Design

This handset looks identical to the Huawei Honor 8 and Meizu U20. Like the latter the Meizu X (one of its names is ‘Meilan X’) comes with a double-reflective glass panels. Generally, the Meizu X sees the Huawei Honor 8 as its main competitor. That’s why the manufacturer came with a few comparisons during the conference. There is also a metal frame for highest build quality. As you guess, they have 2.5D glasses for better ergonomics, so there are no cutting edges. All these features make the phone very comfortable to hold in a hand, though it’s difficult to say we are dealing with a small device. The Meizu X comes at dimensions of 153.8 x 76 x 7.4mm and weighs 165 grams.

The front panel carries a 5.5-inch SHARP TDDI LCD screen at a resolution of 1080p and 401ppi that covers about 85% of front and provides 500nits (1,500:1 contrast ratio). The TDDI allows the manufacturers pack the phones with the thickest displays. Something like this we have already seen on the Meizu MX6. There are also a speaker accompanied with a 5MP front facing camera (f/2.0 aperture) and a standard set of sensors, and a home button located under the screen that comes with mBack technology. As you remember, the latter allows users to interact with the phone diversely when pressing the button in various ways. The Meizu M3X has a mTouch 2.1 fingerprint reader under the home button with an operation speed of 0.2s.

The back panel comes with a 12 MP camera (Sony IMX386 sensor) with dual tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, 6P custom lens, and 4K video recording. The volume rocker and the unlock button are on the right side, while the SIM card slot is on the left.

The manufacturer has come with an interesting idea and located the 3.5mm audio jack on the bottom along with a microphone, micro USB port and a speaker.

As you can guess, the top side comes only with an additional microphone.

The phone runs on Flyme OS 6 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The Flyme OS 6 offers the better version of the previously used Flyme OS 5. Thus all the best features of the latter are available in the newer version, plus, there are tons of enhancements including 300 changes, 200 new animations, and 100 optimized improvements. These changes refer to a new colored interface, Kids Mode, Action View Mode (low consumption mode when reading), and One Mind, an intellectual system, which records user’s activity in order to increase the launch time of the most favorite apps by 200%. There are also optimized algorithms for Beauty photos, phone search engine, updated cloud services, music listening app, and many more.

The overall performance of Flyme OS 6 has become faster – as the company claims it reaches up to 61 fps. However, not all Meizu phones owners are given chance to refresh their UI, as it is available only for the following models:

Meizu Pro 6s Meizu MX4 Pro Meizu m3 note
Meizu Pro 6 Meizu MX4 Meizu m3s
Meizu MX6 Meizu U20 Meizu m2 note
Meizu Pro 5 Meizu U10 Meizu m2
Meizu MX5 Meizu Max Meizu m1 note

What’s interesting, first, the Flyme 6 will be tested via 6000 users. This beta testing can be taken only by registered users. So if you want to become one of them, hurry up, because the sign-up closes at 23:59 on December 10.

As for the Meizu 6 Pro Plus, we have been talking about this flagship for a long time. It’s been known as the first Meizu smartphone powered with an Exynos 8890 SoC. Later this statement was cancelled, but the phone remained to be launched soon. As the name suggests, this is the upgraded version of the original Meizu Pro 6. Fortunately, it’s packed with an Exynos 8890 CPU, the same found on the Samsung Galaxy S7. So it has all the chances to make a real competition to all top brand flagships.
