MediaTek Or Exynos, Which Should Be Dumped By Meizu?

All is now set for the official launch of Meizu Pro 7 which will take place tomorrow by 19:30 in Zhuhai. However, Meizu is in the news again, this time not about the Pro 7 but it’s about the processor that future its smartphones will most likely use. A few days ago, there were rumors that the Pro 7 Plus will come with Samsung’s Exynos 8895 processor, this news was swiftly debunked by a former Meizu employee and a Samsung staff gave some hints that it is technically impossible.

After about three years with MediaTek, Meizu finally got a Qualcomm patent license. The patent agreement signed by Meizu and Qualcomm in December 2016 sparked expectations that the upcoming Meizu flagship will sport a Qualcomm chipset but the company stated that despite the settlement with Qualcomm, we may still not see a Meizu flagship this year with a Qualcomm chip onboard, as the flagships for 2017 will likely still use MediaTek MTK chips.

MediaTek Or Exynos, Who Will Leave the Round Table?

In the future, Meizu will most likely become the first and only phone maker to have used Samsung’s Exynos, MediaTek, and Qualcomm Snapdragon, processors.  The question now is “Will Meizu stick to three top SoC suppliers?” Analyst @Pan Jiutang has looked into this issue critically and concluded that it is not possible for it to retain all three chipset suppliers and at best, it will have two.

Meizu to use Exynos or MediaTek

MediaTek’s current performance is not top-notch thus Meizu will most likely dump MediaTek. However, MediaTek’s woes actually came in the past and if it can slightly up its processor quality, Meizu will certainly stick with it considering years of smooth working relationship. If this is the case, then Samsung Exynos will definitely leave the round table.

What we know for now is that Meizu will definitely use Qualcomm for its high-end device and for its low-end product, it will be MediaTek or Exynos. MediaTek actually has a slight upper hand if it can slightly improve its performance.
