MediaTek’s latest processor brings support for phones with dual cameras to the Helio P family.

The new MediaTek Helio P25 offers slightly higher clock speeds than the company’s older Helio P20 chip, but the main difference is that the new model supports either a single rear camera with resolutions up to 24MP or dual-camera systems featuring two 13MP cameras.

MediaTek’s new image signal-processing tech allows the chip to combine data from dual cameras to quickly create a single image. This can enable bokeh-style effects (where the background is blurred and the foreground is in sharp focus), among other things.

The new chip also supports HDR video recording and automatic light exposure adjustments designed to help you take decent pictures in dimly lit environments.

The MediaTek Helio P25 features an octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU with four of those cores featuring support for top speeds of 2.5 GHz and four lower-power cores topping out at 1.6 GHz.

MediaTek’s new chips also features 900 MHz ARM Mali-T880 dual core graphics and the processor is designed for devices with eMMC 5.1 storage and up to 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM (or up to 4GB of LPDDR3 memory).
