Magnitude Software Acquires Simba to Upgrade Data Access

233

The acquisition will expand Magnitude Software’s corporate performance management (CPM), master data management (MDM) and data connectivity capabilities.

Magnitude Software, a new-generation maker of enterprise information management (EIM) software, on Aug. 16 said it is acquiring Simba Technologies Inc., a developer of cross-platform data-access solutions. Terms of the transaction were not released.
Simba’s data-access products work natively with relational, multi-dimensional and non-relational data sources.
The acquisition is intended to expand Magnitude Software’s corporate performance management (CPM), master data management (MDM) and data connectivity capabilities.
Austin, Texas-based Magnitude Software was formed in April 2013 through a merger of business intelligence maker Noetix and data management provider Kalido. The company currently serves more than 700 global enterprise customers with about 250,000 users, enabling them to manage data as an enterprise asset.

Wide Range of Enterprise Products

The company’s offerings include software for business intelligence, data warehousing, reporting, analytics and master data management. Magnitude Software offers pre-packaged solutions for commonly sought-after functional business areas.
Vancouver, B.C.-based Simba Technologies provides data access between front-end applications and back-end data sources, bridging the gap between innovative and non-conventional data sources to the universal industry standard.
Since the early 1990s, Simba has worked closely with software vendors such as Microsoft Corp. and others to enable universal access to the most widely deployed data sources through Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), a de facto database connectivity standard.
“This acquisition furthers our strategic vision to enable enterprise-wide visibility and insights for corporate performance management,” Magnitude Chairman and CEO Chris Ney said. “As data heterogeneity expands exponentially, so does the complexity of connectivity challenges that Simba can help solve, accelerating our ability to put data into the hands of business users.”
New Specialized Data-Related Solutions on the Way
Together, Magnitude Software and Simba will offer specialized solutions for addressing data fragmentation within hybrid-cloud application environments. This includes the ability to deliver personalized operational business intelligence in support of financial operations, in which this data is spread across enterprise resource planning (ERP) and cloud/SaaS solutions.
Further, the acquisition will allow native connectivity to be embedded into Magnitude Software’s offerings to harmonize business critical master data, such as customer and product, in an enterprise data landscape that is increasingly fragmented, Ney said.
Simba uses SimbaEngineX to build all of its drivers, and its ODBC, Java Database Connectivity (JDBC), and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) connectivity technology is embedded in products from companies including Alteryx, Cloudera, Couchbase, DataStax, Google, Hortonworks, MapR, Oracle, Qubole, SAP, Splunk, Tableau and Teradata.
