LinkedIn Rolls Out Job Search App for iPhone

LinkedIn has launched a job search app for the iPhone designed to make it easier for users to find and apply for jobs. The Advanced Search function lets users filter jobs by title, location, company, industry, or seniority level to find the job openings that are most relevant to them.

The new standalone Job Search app for iOS is available in the U.S. only for now and it can be downloaded in the Apple app store, according to a post on LinkedIn’s official blog.

Applicants who apply to jobs on the first day they’re posted are 10 percent more likely to land those jobs, LinkedIn said. That’s why users need to be able to search for jobs wherever and whenever they want, not just when they’re sitting at their desks.

“Landing your dream job can feel like a full-time job. So we wanted to make it easier to find, research, and apply for your next opportunity by maximizing your ‘in between’ moments,” according to the post. “The next time you’re in a line for coffee or stuck waiting for a delayed flight, why not jump start your job search from your phone?”

Better Than LinkedIn’s Main Site

Although LinkedIn’s main site offers filtering search tools and allows to users save searches and jobs, the Job Search for iPhone also lets users find job opportunities wherever they want with location-based search. They can also get automatic recommendations and notifications based on their searches and they can apply for jobs with their LinkedIn profiles with just a couple taps.

LinkedIn said more than 40 percent of its users are currently using mobile to look at jobs on its main site. But that’s not always a private proposition. So the app’s default settings will ensure that anything users do within the app won’t be shared with anyone, even if the settings on their LinkedIn.com profiles allow those actions to be shared with people in their networks.

“It can be hard to search for a job while you’re at your desk, not to mention the potentially awkward conversation with your current boss,” according to the blog post. “Our goal is to help make this process easier for you and to help you be discreet. Everything you do within the app will be completely private and not shared with your network.”

Core LinkedIn Features Included

The new app comes stocked with the core LinkedIn features to help users manage their job searches, including the Advanced Search function. Like LinkedIn.com, the Job Search app lets users learn more about the companies posting the jobs that pique their interests. Users can also check out who they know who’s already working at those companies to get the competitive intel that can propel them to the head of the applicant pools.

“We’ll also make sure we’re keeping tabs on the jobs that interest you with important notifications when jobs you’ve saved are about to expire or when a recruiter has viewed your application, or when there are new jobs that meet your search criteria,” LinkedIn added.

LinkedIn said its Job Search app for the iPhone is aimed at putting the job-finding power of LinkedIn in the palm of its users’ hands.
