LG G6 rumored to feature a 3D glass back, wireless chargin…

Earlier this month, a rumor claimed that the LG G6 will utilize a “highly reflective material” at the back. However, according to a new rumor out of South Korea today, the flagship smartphone is going to feature a 3D glass back.

The display size will reportedly stay the same at 5.3-inches, with a 2.5D glass layer on top. And while the resolution hasn’t been talked about, we expect LG to retain the 1440 x 2560 Quad HD resolution. An upgrade to 2160 x 3840 4K doesn’t seem very likely next year, as most manufacturers seem to believe that Quad HD is just fine for now.

The use of glass on the back will allow the G6 to be compatible with wireless charging technologies, a feature that we haven’t seen yet on an LG flagship smartphone. Another new feature that the G6 is rumored to include is water resistance. Just like wireless charging, water resistance is a feature that LG flagships have lacked so far. While water resistance wasn’t a popular feature on flagship handsets in the past, Samsung and Apple have managed to make it seem like a great feature by making their 2016 flagship handsets water resistant.

In order to gain an early advantage over Samsung’s Galaxy S8, LG is rumored to announce the G6 at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in late February. It could then go on sale by the end of March in a few markets, before Samsung even announces the Galaxy S8.
