At the end of December LeTV announced a new TV box. According to the initial information the LeEco U4 also known as LeEco LeTV Box U4 comes with a decent list of features at an affordable price. Today this product has officially gone on sale. Fortunately, nothing changed in comparison to that announcement. Moreover, the LeEco U4 TV box is priced at 299 yuan ($43), which means it can make a tough competition to a number of popular TV boxes including the Xiaomi Mi Box 3C and 3S.
Like Xiaomi LeEco always comes in with stylish devices. This statement is true for the LeEco U4 as well. This product comes in a square-shaped form factor. The housing is made of plastic. It’s matte black. And there are only two ports not counting the power jack – a HDMI and USB 2.0 port. It comes at dimensions of 100x100x10.8mm and weighs 157 grams.
As for hardware, the LeEco U4 sports an Amlogic S905 quad-core CPU clocked at 2.0GHz and coming with A53 architecture. It’s also paired with a five-core Mali-450 GPU at 750MHz frequency, 2GB DDR3 RAM and 8 / 16GB eMMC storage. Finally, the LeEco U4 TV box supports dual-band WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.1. As for software, the TV box runs on EMUI 5.8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
That’s not a secret the selling point of any TV box is the supported video formats and codecs. The LeEco U4 won’t have any problem in this sense. It supports video output of 4K resolution with video decoding format of H.265 HEVC [email protected] 4K2K @ 60fps, H.264 AVC HP @ L5.1 4K2K @ 30fps, H.264 MVC 4k2K @ 30fps, MPEG1 / 2/4, VC-1, DivX4 / 5, WMV3 1920 * 1080P @ 60fps, Real8 / 9/10 1080p, and audio support of DD and DTS-HD.
Other than that the LeEco U4 offers a list of useful features such as virtual TV remote via a LeEco smartphone, single-touch screenshot option, smart typing and TV browser.
The LeEco U4 TV box is priced at 299 yuan ($43) for a 1 month of super membership, while the other membership costs 399 yuan ($57) bringing more channels.
