LeEco may not be a big name in the West yet, but the company that recently acquired Vizio’s TV business has been selling phones, TVs, electric bicycles, and other products in China for years. So when I heard this summer that the company would launch one of the first smartphones with 8GB of RAM, I took notice.

It turns out that rumor may not have been accurate. But the new LeEco Le Pro 3 smartphone is still pretty impressive: it’s a 5.5 inch Android phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, up to 6GB of RAM, up to 64GB of storage, and a starting price of about $270 (in China).

That price gets you a model with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. But with a $300 price tag, the 6GB/64GB model isn’t much more expensive.

There are also pricier models with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage ($375) or 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage ($450).

Both versions of the Le Pro 3 feature 5.5 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel displays, 4,070 mAh batteries with Quick Charge 3.0, 16MP rear cameras with Sony IMX298 image sensors and phase detection autofocus, and 8MP front cameras.

Other features include a fingerprint sensor, NFC, and dual SIM support.

The phone goes on sale in China September 28th. There’s no word on if or when this model will be available in the United States, but LeEco representatives I’ve spoken with have indicated repeatedly that the company does plan to start selling phones in the US soon.

Still holding out hope that 8GB phones are on the way? It looks like Xiaomi may have one in the works.
