Leaked photos show the HTC Ocean Note in all its glory

HTC is seemingly preparing a comeback this year by stepping into a territory it hasn’t cared much for in the past. Well, the company has certainly made phablets before, but HTC is now reported to be readying an answer to Samsung’s Galaxy Note series with a device said to be dubbed HTC Ocean Note. The Ocean Note will supposedly feature a curved screen like Samsung’s phones and come with a camera that ranks at the very top, and we are now getting a look at what could be the retail version of the device.

HTC seems to be taking inspiration not just from Samsung, but from LG as well. The device in the pictures has a secondary ticker display above the main display, similar to the LG V10 and V20. On the back, the camera and lens arrangement looks much like Samsung’s recent flagships. The leaked pictures also reveal that the HTC Ocean Note will be launched in three color options. With the screen showing January 5 as the date and Las Vegas as the location, HTC probably had the device on display for a limited audience at CES 2017.

With reports of the Ocean Note featuring a MediaTek processor, the device might not be as high-end as one would expect, but HTC certainly seems to be in experimentation mode. The company certainly needs to come out with something different and fresh if it intends to get people excited again, but whether the Ocean Note will entice consumers is something that will only be revealed once it goes official. An announcement is expected tomorrow, although it isn’t confirmed at this point in time.
