Leaked photos show double capacity DDR4 modules

A couple of photos leaked onto the web, showing some really awkward memory modules, I say awkward as these double capacity DIMMs are memory DIMM modules that are twice as high as they stack two rows of memory chips. This new dimms would be intended for small (Mini ITX) motherboards that often only have two DIMM slots.

Some photos have leaked on pending ASUS Z390 motherboards, and these show off what we talk about, among the contestants is aTridend Z RGB DC module from G.Skill. The actual population and thus capacity is not known though, but we assume 16GBx2 to make that really compact build very high-end. A challenge will remain that height though, as well as the looks of course as well, you really need to like that.

The capacity of the high memory modules is not known, but Asus probably wants to use the deviating DIMMs to provide small motherboards with only two memory slots with extra ram. VideoCardz, who also posted lost of photos on the motherboards, mentioned that the modules can be used on Asus Maximus XI series motherboards. The official announcement we expect to happen in October.
