Hours after we reported that Lenovo is considering to ditch its name and use Moto branding for all its future smartphones, a 2017 roadmap for the Moto lineup has leaked. HellmotoHK has now leaked the names of all upcoming Moto and Lenovo devices for next year.
Lenovo acquired Motorola back in 2014, and the first big move by the company was rebranding Motorola to Moto, which we are still having hard times to get used to. The company did admit that the acquisition did not meet expectations, so we expected another big change.
The next move was to merge the existing Lenovo smartphone lineups with Moto’s current, while introducing a few new ones. Moto has recently announced a new handset in China, known as Moto M, but according to leaked roadmap the phone was actually designed by Lenovo.
While Lenovo might not be the official company behind the new smartphones, they will still be involved with the design and engineering of some 2017 devices, including the Moto X and Moto M. Some lineups such as the Moto C and Moto E will include some inputs from Lenovo, but a third party ODM will also be involved.
Here is the roadmap:
- Moto Z – Motorola
- Moto X – Lenovo
- Moto M – Lenovo
- Moto G – Motorola / Lenovo
- Moto E – Lenovo / ODM
- Moto C – Lenovo / ODM
