Ko Ja developing micro LED-based luminous keyboards, logo backlighting

Notebook-use membrane touch switch maker Ko Ja (Cayman) has disclosed it has cooperated with US-based partners to develop micro LED membrane lighting for luminous keyboards and logo backlighting.

Ko Ja said the company and the partners have set up a factory to make micro LED membrane lighting in Suzhou, eastern China, with trial production to being in early 2017 and volume production in third-quarter 2017.

Ko Ja said it has applied membrane touch technology to electronic fence used in credit card readers for information security.

Ko Ja has a global market share of 30% for notebook-use membrane touch switches and the product line takes up 97-98% of its consolidated revenues currently. Ko Ja supplies notebook-use membrane touch switches for main Taiwan-based keyboard makers including Chicony Electronics, Darfon Electronics, Sunrex Computer, Lite-On Technology and Primax Electronics.

Ko Ja posted consolidated revenues of NT$493.1 million (US$15.6 million), gross margin of 21.55%, net operating profit of NT$45.9 million, net profit of NT$25.6 million and net EPS of NT$0.47 for third-quarter 2016, leading to consolidated revenues of NT$1.178 billion, gross margin of 19.89%, net operating profit of NT$60.2 million, net profit of NT$44.2 million and net EPS of NT$0.81 for January-September.
