KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says reports indicating the iPhone 8 is doing poorly have been exaggerated. Although the phone is definitely seeing fewer sales than the iPhone 7, Kuo believes the market has viewed this situation in an “excessively negative” way.
The iPhone 8 is seeing fewer sales because a large number of consumers are holding out for the higher-end iPhone X, which arrives later in 2017. So even though the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have seen just half the sales of the prior generation, that doesn’t mean Apple is actually going to report overall negative smartphone sales.
