Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has signed an settlement to license to All Cosmos Bio-Tech, a Malaysia-based composite fertilizer maker established by Taiwanese traders, its expertise of depolymerizing lignocellulose into carbohydrates.
Developed by ITRI’s Green Energy and Environment Research Laboratories, the expertise might be used to depolymerize empty fruit brunches (EFBs, waste after extracting oil from oil palm fruits) of oil palm bushes in Malaysia into carbohydrates together with xylose and glucose and others which may be fermented into biofuel reminiscent of ethanol gasoline and butanol, ITRI stated.
There is loads of oil palm EFBs in Malaysia and the federal government bans disposal of such waste by burning to stop air air pollution, stated chairman Tony Peng for All Cosmos. As All Cosmos provides composite fertilizer for a lot of oil palm orchards in Malaysia, the corporate has a gradual supply of oil palm EFBs in giant quantity.
Test outcomes present that 0.5kg of xylose and glucose is produced from depolymerizing lignocellulose of 1kg of oil palm EFBs on common, and market costs for xylose and glucose are US$3,500/ton and US$350/ton respectively, ITRI famous.
ITRI and All Cosmos will cooperate to arrange a pilot manufacturing unit with annual capability of depolymerizing one ton of oil palm EFBs in Malaysia in 2019 after which a manufacturing unit with annual depolymerizing capability of about 10,000 tons there, ITRI indicated. The cooperation with All Cosmos is according to Taiwan authorities’s round economic system and New Southbound Policy, ITRI stated.
