Facial and gesture recognition might be included with the iPhone 8. Timothy Arcuri, a Cowen and Company analyst, believes the phone may use a laser sensor and an infrared sensor near the front-camera for facial recognition. KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also previously claimed the phone may include those features.

Gesture recognition may enable a new way of interacting with the iPhone.
