Facial and gesture recognition might be included with the iPhone 8. Timothy Arcuri, a Cowen and Company analyst, believes the phone may use a laser sensor and an infrared sensor near the front-camera for facial recognition. KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also previously claimed the phone may include those features.
For security purposes, facial recognition would offer an alternative to Touch ID or a way to make that system even more secure. Multi-factor authentication could be enabled, for example, by requiring a matching face and fingerprint to get into the device.
Gesture recognition may enable a new way of interacting with the iPhone.
