Intel is taking a step back from wearables and its decisions suggest the company won’t be coming out with new devices. TechCrunch reports the Intel wearable division will experience significant layoffs and the Basis Ruby, a product the division created, will never be released.
This distancing from the wearable industry comes after Intel’s initial failure in the sector with the Basis Peak. The Peak was the first device to reach the market after Intel’s acquisition of Basis in 2014. It was recalled this year due to overheating and fire issues.
