You’ve seen them, or maybe even have one yourself. The small NUC boxes that function as a low-cost Internet PC, an HTPC or simple PC for office usage. Intel is refreshing the existing lineup and is adding Gemini Lake SoCs.
We already mentioned them a while ago, as Intel roadmaps leaked onto the web showing a thing or two. Intel plans included a 10W Celeron J4005 dual core “Gemini Lake” processor. Well, there’s more to add, the NUC7PJYH and NUC7CJYH come will get a quad-core Pentium Silver J5005 and a dual-core Celeron J4005 fitted (2.8 and 2.7 GHz). These thus both are Gemini Lake based. Gemini Lake TDP is 6W mobile / 10W desktop SoC including Dual and quad-core procs with on the IGP side, up to 18 EUs Gen9, native HDMI 2.0. Gemini Lake features Goldmont Plus cores with 4MB cache (up from 2MB), DDR4, integrated WiFi / BT.
The new Gemini lake range can be spotted on Intel’s ARk, prices are not yet listed though.
- SoC – Intel Celeron dual/quad core GLK processor (10W TDP)
- System Memory – 2x DDR4-2400 slots for up to 8GB RAM
- Storage – M.2 SSD slot, SDXC slot
- Display – 2x HDMI 2.0a ports supporting up to two independent displays
- Audio – front stereo headset, rear stereo out / TOSLINK
- Connectivity – Gigabit Ethernet (TBC), 802.11ac 1×1 WiFi and Bluetooth 5
An interesting aspect of the more powerful NUCs based on Coffee Lake/Kaby Lake H processors is that they all come with one or two ThunderBolt 3 interfaces, and support Optane memory. Check the roadmap below for details.
