First benchmark results of the upcoming Kaby Lake flagship Intel Core i7-7700K processor have surfaced online, courtesy of Geekbench.
The Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake processor scored 6131 points in the single-core test and 20243 on the multi-core test, which is a decent improvement over what the current Skylake Intel Core i7-6700K scores in the same benchmark. For reference, in the single-core test, the Core i7-6700K scores an average of 4300 points, which points to a 42% increase in single threaded performance. Similarly, in the multi-core test the Core i7-6700K scores around 16700 points, translating to a performance boost of around 20%. While these numbers may seem impressive, we should keep in mind that Geekbench isn’t the best benchmark to directly compare the performance of two processors. So in order to get a better idea of performance improvements with the Kaby Lake architecture, we will need to wait for more benchmark results to surface online.
Intel Core i7-7700K will be a quad-core processor with 4 physical cores and 8 threads. It will boast of a high base clock of 4.2 GHz with a Turbo Boost clock of 4.4-4.5 GHz. As for the TDP, it is expected to have a 95W rating, slightly higher than the 91W TDP of the Intel Core i7-6700K. Despite the slightly higher TDP, we expect the chip to boast of improved efficiency, due to it being manufactured on a more advanced 14nm node.
The Intel Core i7-7700K and other mainstream desktop processors based on the 7th Generation Intel Kaby Lake architecture are likely to be released in early 2017, possibly within the first quarter of the year.
