Intel will invest $200 million in projects related to autonomous vehicle technology over the course of the next two years. CEO Brian Krzanich announced the investment during the Los Angeles Auto Show’s Automobility event. The money will be spent by Intel Capital.
The company is focused on funding projects dealing with connectivity, context awareness, deep learning, and security. Those technologies will help vehicles process and respond to massive amounts of data, all while minimizing the risk to drivers/passengers.
Among the things that must be created, says Krzanich, are systems that can handle 4 terabytes of data each day from each car.
