More than a million advertisers are active on Instagram, meaning the social network has added 500,000 just since September of last year. Instagram believes it’s a particularly good spot for advertising due to some unique qualities as well as its 400 million user base.
James Quarles, leader of Instagram’s ad business, says the network is unique in that it’s a place people pay attention to their passions, regardless of them being niche or mainstream. This can directly lead to targeted advertising.
A good portion, 80% to be exact, of users also follow at least one business.
Instagram is working to offer more features for advertisers, including data about multi-image posts and Stories.
