Founded in 1999, ICG headquartered in New York, USA, aims to study and promote to the world the best practices of the broadband economy and information and communications technology (ICT). To promote global publicity, it established ICF Canada in 2015. In view of Taiwan’s proactive and aggressive performance to promote smart city development, ICT hopes for the establishment of ICF Taiwan after the success of ICF Canada in order to lead Southeast Asian countries and regions to promote smart cities. Therefore, it has selected Taipei to hold the announcement meeting for the Top 7 smart cities in the world.

At the ICF, Taipei Deputy Mayor Charles Lin stated that Taipei City will launch the “U Car” electric vehicle (EV) sharing rental system. Lin also wishes to form the “U car living area” with Keelung and Taoyuan as “cars should go out of the city”. According to him, the success of this across-city EV sharing program can serve about 10 million citizens in these three cities.

Lin added, the experiment of the “U Moto” electric scooter sharing rental system 200 Taiwan-made electronic scooters based on YouBike’s experience is in progress, and U Car will be launched next month.

He maintained, Taipei has implemented smart city for years, and the smart city committee can be restructured in the future because the stage mission has been accomplished. Taipei City Government has established PMO (Taipei Smart City PMO) independent from the government system for a large, new experience to turn Taipei into a “living lab” and attract more private partnerships.

Lin stated, “To make people feel it” is the prime concern of smart city promotion, as it is the logic for supporting a smart city life. In addition to the government, we need the partnership of many more industries. Taipei City wishes to become an output node of smart city, brand the “MIT” brand through cooperation with other cities, and market Taiwan. In the future, instead of a few technologies, we hope to output an entire system.
