According to a recent report published by the IDC (International Data Corporation), the top three smartphone manufacturers in China continue to be the market leaders in China when it comes to their market share.
Announcing about this in a blog post, IDC mentioned that these three manufacturers account for about 47% of total smartphone market share in China during Q2, 2016.
The report further mentions that the market share for these three manufacturers was, 45 and 43 percent respectively during Q1 of 2016 and 2015 respectively. The company goes on to claim that these numbers are a proof of handset market consolidation in China.
In the article published on IDC website, Mr. Xiaohan Tay, Senior Market Analyst said:
The success of Huawei, OPPO, and vivo in the market can be attributed to their concerted effort to build their brand and aggressive marketing to attract the consumers, along with the focus on product differentiation.
As it can be seen in the image below, Huawei, which also happens to be the top seller in China, shipped 19.1 million handsets resulting to 17.2% market share in Q2 2016 against 16.6 million shipments during Q2 2015 with a growth rate of about 15.2% over the past one year.
Similarly, OPPO and Vivo shipped 18.0 and 14.7 Million handsets respectively in Q2, 2016 against 8.0 and 8.4 Million handsets the previous year resulting in 124.1% and 74.7% growth respectively.
The above numbers are not really surprising given how aggressively these three Chinese smartphone vendors are coming up with new products with very competitive pricing, and cut-throat marketing strategies.
Recently Huawei was in the news for its rumoured Nova series smartphone targetted at the Women crowd. Oppo launched the Oppo F1S recently and Vivo is working on few new smartphones too.
