Recently HTC announced the launch of a LinkVR headset which is designed to pair with HTC’s latest flagship U11 Smartphone. LinkVR is the first headset created by the company and will compete against the likes of Samsung’s Gear VR and Google Daydream View. This will also be the first VR which will be offering six degree of freedom or 6DOF tracking.

The VR will be using a external camera for the purpose of tracking motions. It has both camera and controllers bundled in the box. Interestingly HTC Link will not carry the Vive branding and will only be launched in Japan.

HTC has designed LinkVR especially for U11 which means that used would only have connect the mobile via USB-C cable. Headset will have two 3.6-inch displays of resolutions 1080×1200 pixels and come with refresh rate of 90Hz. Display will have a 110 degree field of view and come with a 2800mAh battery.

LinkVR will be up for sale in July and there is no report on the pricing of the product.

HTC U11 is the latest flagship for the Korean makers and will come with a 5.5 inch 2560 x 1440 px display. It will come with Gorilla glass 5, finger print sensor and Edge Sense technology. With Edge Sense technology one only has to squeeze on the edge to initiate any action. Phone will be loaded with a 12MP camera which will be equipped with 5 axis optical image stabilization. Front camera of the phone will be of 16 MP. Phone will carry 6GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage.  It will carry the Qualcomm flagship Snapdragon 835 processor, Android 7.0 and a 3000 mAh battery.

There are also reports that the phone may come with Amazon Alexa, the AI assistant from Amazon. It will be the first device to come with Alexa interface. With top end specifications and a dedicated VR this is one device which might turn the fortunes for HTC.
