252

Unveiled in Paris today, the new Spectre laptop is not only the “world’s thinnest,” but it was created with an emphasis on luxury and design, according to HP. The device, making its debut at the New York Times’ International Luxury Conference, features a glossy copper finish, jewelry-like hinge design and 13.3-inch edge-to-edge display.

Available for pre-order starting April 25 at $ 1.169.99 and up, the HP Spectre will also come in two limited-edition designs created by artists Tord Boontje and Jess Hannah. Laptops with Boontje’s floral-and-butterfly design and Hannah’s 18K gold and diamond-encrusted design are set to be auctioned during the Cannes Film Festival in May, with the money raised to go to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

At just 10.4-millimeters thick, the HP Spectre is as thin as a AAA battery, HP said. The notebook is powered by sixth-generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, and features a two-piece hybrid battery that can support up to 9 1/2 hours of on-the-go computing, according to the company’s specifications.

‘More Like a Piece of Jewelry’

Ahead of the Spectre’s unveiling, HP CEO Dion Weisler told the New York Times that the device shows his company can outperform Apple in appeal and innovation. Launched in March 2015, the MacBook is Apple’s thinnest laptop at 13.1 millimeters thick, with a price starting at $ 1,299.

In a video on its Web site, HP described the Spectre as the best notebook the company has ever made, with a focus on premium design that makes it “feel a little bit more like a piece of jewelry.”

The limited-edition artist-designed versions of the Spectre take that philosophy even farther, according to Stacy Wolff, vice president of design for personal systems at HP. “We are showcasing the possibilities of marrying technology with glitz and glamor, allowing the PC to become an expression of style,” Wolff said in a statement.

New Line of Envy Devices

Weighing 2.35 pounds, the HP Spectre has a carbon-fiber bottom and Corning Gorilla Glass display. Is also comes with Bang & Olufsen stereo speakers with HP Audio Boost technology.

Offering up to 512 GB of storage and up to 8 GB of memory, the Spectre features Intel’s hyperbaric cooling system that “keeps the machine running cool even with powerful processors in a small package,” according to HP. The laptop also offers three full-function USB Type-C connectors.

HP today also announced a new line of Envy laptops, including the 15.6-inch Envy x360, priced at $ 679.99; the 15.6-inch, $ 779.99 Envy laptop; and the 17.3-inch Envy, with a starting price of $ 1,029.99. The 15.6-inch Envy will be available through HP’s Web site starting May 25, and the 17.3-inch Envy and the Envy x360 can be ordered from HP online beginning June 1.
