As expected, Google has finally unveiled its newest Android smartphones, the Pixel and Pixel XL. Google insists that the two smartphones have been built in-house, although they are manufactured by HTC for Google, somewhat similar to the HTC Google Nexus One that came out almost six years back.

The smaller Pixel comes with a 5” 1080p AMOLED display, boasting of 441 PPI pixel density. The Pixel XL on the other hand has a 5.5” AMOLED display with 1440 x 2560 Quad HD resolution and 534 PPI pixel density. Both smartphones differ in the battery life department as well, as the Pixel packs a 2770mAh capacity battery while the Pixel XL offers a beefier 3450mAh capacity battery. However, you do get fast charging support on both, which is claimed to provide up to 7 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes.

The two smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 821 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM. In terms of storage, buyers will have a choice of either 32GB or 128GB of onboard storage. In the camera department, the two new smartphones aren’t very different to last year’s Nexus 6P in terms of hardware. They feature a 12.3 MP primary camera with large 1.55 micron sized pixels and an f/2.0 aperture lens. It also offers optical image stabilization, phase detection autofocus + laser detection autofocus, 240 fps 720p slow-mo video, CRI-90 dual-LED flash, and 4K video recording at 30fps. The selfie camera on the other hand is an 8MP unit with 1.4 micron sized pixels, an f/2.4 aperture lens and 1080p video capture at 30fps.

As rumored, the Pixel and Pixel XL are being launched with Android 7.1 Nougat operating system out of the box. Prices start at $649 in the US, where the two handsets will be sold exclusively by Verizon Wireless. They will also be available for purchase at the Google Play Store unlocked. Pre-orders begin on October 13 and sales are expected to commence October 20 onwards. Color options include Quite Black, Very Silver, and Really Blue. Singapore is sadly not among the countries where the duo will go on sale in the first wave.
