With Google having officially declared the day its new Pixel flagship phones will be announced, information on the two devices is expected to make its way online on a regular basis, something we see repeated every year. The Pixel and Pixel XL were captured live on camera earlier this week, the specs of the phones have been revealed already, and we are now hearing about another feature of Google’s upcoming HTC-made phones.
According to Android Police, the Pixel and Pixel XL will feature IP53 certification, meaning they will be resistant to only water splashes and a little dust. With both Samsung and Apple now offering water-resistant flagship phones, this could come as a disappointment for those looking to pick either one of the Pixel handsets up after they launch. However, the two devices will be on par with flagships like the HTC 10 and LG G5, which do not feature proper water and dust resistance. Still, given how Google is looking at pricing its new phones in the top-tier smartphone range, not offering features similar to those from the industry’s two giants might see it lose a few potential consumers.
The Pixel and Pixel XL are expected to feature 5-inch and 5.7-inch displays, Snapdragon 820 quad-core processors, 4GB of RAM, at least 32GB of storage, 12-megapixel rear cameras, 5-megapixel front cameras, and Android 7.0 Nougat. Both phones will be made official on October 4th, with the 5-inch Pixel expected to be priced at $649. A Pixel tablet from Huawei might also be part of the announcement, although there’s been a considerable lack of information on that front for it to be a major possibility.
