Google Photos begins creating animations from videos, gets smart…

You may start seeing more frequent memories to help you capture all those small moments of a young child growing up.

Google is flexing more of its AI muscles in Google Photos, promising to do much of the work for you when it comes to fixing images, finding memories, or making cute animations you’ll want to share with friends and family.

In the latest Google Photos update, the app will begin to ping you about pictures that are sideways but need an adjustment. You’ll then be able to fix them all at once.

Google Photos will pull together images that it thinks you ought to rotate.

Additionally, Google Photos will now pull moments out of your videos and then turn them into an animation. Unfortunately, you can’t select any segments from your videos to do this yourself. That is still controlled by the artificial intelligence overlords.

Google Photos will create short animations out of your video clips.

Google also says you’ll be pinged more regularly with recent photo highlights. This may have special appeal to those with young children, who can get frequent updates about all of those moments that can fly by pretty quickly.

All of the new stuff is coming to the Android, iOS, and web version of Google Photos.

The impact on you: Google Photos continues to show why it’s an excellent option for saving all of your pictures. The machine learning makes it easier to find past images and to do some basic sorting. However, some more human-powered editing would be helpful in this case, such as the ability to pull out animations from the videos on your own.
