Google is handing Android developers more control over app pricing. At the company’s Playtime developer event in San Francisco, Google revealed developers can now discount app subscriptions for new users. The discounts can be used to reel in additional users who’d initially be turned off by the full price.
This change comes as subscriptions are becoming more common on the Play Store. Users are spending 10x more on subscriptions compared to three years ago.
We know how important subscriptions are in helping you to monetize, and we’re continuing to invest in features to support your subscription business. Along with local/custom pricing and free trials already offered, introductory pricing will help you acquire more subscribers and grow your subscription base. – Larissa Fontain, Google
