Google has just announced that its smart speaker is receiving a software update with an interesting feature for users in the United States and Canada. Starting today, users will be able to use the Google Home as a phone to make voice calls for free, so long as the call recipient is in one of those two countries.
Google Home users can call businesses listed in Google Maps or people in Google Contacts with a simple “OK Google, call [whoever].” Since it also supports multi-user, the system accurately looks up and dial the right person. Also important to note is that you cannot make emergency calls to 911.
