Goodix Reveals New In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

274

Almost every new smartphone comes with a fingerprint sensor, it is only implemented differently. Some companies tend to favor fingerprint scanners on the back, some embedded in the physical buttons, but the obvious next step is to have them integrated into the display and while this technology is already available, it looks like none of the 2017 flagship smartphones will have it.

Last year, Synaptics announced a new fingerprint sensor that is capable of scanning a fingerprint through 1mm of full cover glass, including 2.5D glass, and combines fingerprint authentication and facial recognition.

Now, another Chinese company called Goodix revealed an in-display fingerprint sensor that can transform any part of the display into a fingerprint sensor. This kind of sensor will help companies to increase the screen-to-body area ratio and also make phones thinner.

Many companies are using Goodix’s fingerprint sensors, including HUAWEI, OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi, ZTE, LG, Nokia, and ASUS, and we are waiting to see first with this new technology.
