A Samsung Galaxy S8+ prototype with the model number SM-G955U has cropped up on the Geekbench database. Going by the model number, the SM-G955U will be the North American unlocked variant of the Galaxy S8+, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 octa-core chipset under the hood.
The Galaxy S8+ prototype managed to score 6084 points in the Geekbench multi-core test and 1929 points in the single-core test. While both scores are higher than what the Exynos 8890- and Snapdragon 820-powered Galaxy S7 Edge versions score, the gap between the Galaxy S7 Edge and the Galaxy S8+ isn’t as wide as we would have expected. However, we have to keep in mind that these are not final scores and it is not uncommon for prototype models to score lower for various reasons.
The Geekbench listing also confirms yet again that the Galaxy S8+ will be equipped with 4GB of RAM and not 6GB as some early rumors had claimed. On the software front, the prototype was caught running on Android 7.0 Nougat, but we expect the smartphone to launch with the latest Android 7.1 OS out of the box.
The Samsung Galaxy S8+, along with the smaller Galaxy S8, will be going official at an Unpacked event to be held in New York City on the 29th of this month. In most markets around the world, the duo will be going on sale by the middle of April.
