One of the things we usually look out for in a flagship device is usually the hardware especially the processor around which all other specs revolve. But aside from the sleek, beautiful design flagship phones are known for, it is usually assumed that they possess a solid build with some level of durability. That is turning out not to be the case with HTC’s latest flagship – the HTC U11.
The U11 was launched in the early part of May this year and only became available in parts of Asia mid-May and its global roll out is still ongoing. But rather too soon, a fan who bought the HTC U11 has shared a photo of the device with the screen broken. The user claimed it only took a fall to damage the screen of the U11. Now, we understand this isn’t one of those rugged phones round but hey, this is a 4599 Yuan smartphone!
The HTC U11 is presently listed on the company’s official website in China, in both 64GB and 128GB storage variants, along with price points. The 64GB storage variant is priced at 4,599 Yuan ($670), while the 128GB storage model costs a whopping 5,988 Yuan ($873). That is a huge price to pay and not get Gorilla Glass protection. We really don’t know the sort of screen protection the U11 features but whatever it is, it may not be very tough. Also, we don’t know the intensity of the fall that could have resulted to this damage even though the user claims it is not very high. But since the U11 is still new, customer service couldn’t even assist with the cost of repairs. No doubt, fixing that screen will surely not come cheap. Now you know, if you are planning to get the HTC U11 when it becomes available in the US, UK or Europe, ensure you get a protective pouch or other forms of protection as well.
