A malicious website pretending to be associated with WhatsApp is spreading adware. It’s located at “whatsapp.com,” yet the characters are replaced with those from the Cyrillic alphabet, making it a more convincing fake.
This URL is close enough to the real one to make tricking people a bit easier.
The site claims to be offering WhatsApp in multiple colors. Upon visiting, you’re asked to share the site with friends for “verification.” That’ll send the fake WhatsApp site to others with the message, “I love the new colors for whatsapp.”
Once you’ve gone through the “verification” process, you’re directed to BlackWhats, a seemingly malicious app that’s actually found on the real Chrome Web Store.
