Facebook has a large war chest to pull from in its original content push and it’s not going to refrain from using it. The Wall Street Journal reports the company plans to spend up to $3 million per episode for some of its original series. It’s speaking with major players in Hollywood to come up with content.
Depending on the type of show, each episode will range from a couple hundred thousand dollars to millions.
Facebook hopes to launch the content by late summer and it’s specifically trying to target the 17-30 age group.
The social network will become home to both scripted and unscripted series, with the former costing significantly more on average.
It’s estimated Facebook will initially launch around 24 titles.
