Facebook has begun trying out ads in Messenger. With a small test in Australia and Thailand, the company has added advertisements to the messaging app’s interface. Businesses can use the ad section to place marketing material on Messenger’s home screen.
The ads take up a bit of space. They’re displayed in a card-like way, featuring an image thumbnail, text, and a link. Facebook inserts them under your recent conversations.
Depending on what an ad is for, its link will carry out different actions. It could sign you up for something or bring you to a “learn more” page, for example.
