Apple’s latest iPhone X smartphone is a great handset, but pretty much everybody will agree it is too expensive. The starting price of the handset is $999, which is definitely too much, but we all know that Apple will still sell plenty of units. Industry insiders in China did an investigation to find out how much the phone costs and it seems that the production cost is 60% less than the retail price.
The 5.8-inch OLED display is the most expensive part with a price of $80 per unit. It is then followed by NAND memory ($45), Apple A11 Bionic chipset ($26) and 3 GB of RAM ($24).
While the production cost is 60% cheaper than the retail price, a lot of extra expenses such as manufacturing, the cost of research and development, marketing and more are not included.
