EPD (electrophoretic display) maker E Ink Holdings (EIH), smartphone vendor HTC and Italy-based packaging solution provider Palladio Group have announced a jointly-developed smart packaging solution for pharmaceuticals.
The smart packaging solution will integrate EIH-developed IoT-enabled smart e-paper labels, HTC-developed medication management software and Palladio-designed pharmaceutical packaging.
Supporting various wireless communications technologies including BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), Wi-Fi and ZigBee, the smart e-paper label functions as an interface between patients and medication displaying the contents of the package, reminders to take medicine, and records the time medicine was taken.
The management software tracks doses taken and records information on symptoms, side effects and evaluates therapy results to help patients consult their health care team, aiming to improve therapeutic effectiveness.
