This isn’t a safety issue — just an annoyance for the people who are experiencing the battery issue. If you think your iPhone is affected, -‘s what you need to know.

How do I know if my iPhone is eligible?

Apple says “a very small number of iPhone 6s devices may unexpectedly shut down.” These phones are from a “limited serial number range” and were manufactured between September and October of last year.

If this sounds like your iPhone 6s — you may be eligible.

Where can I go to get a new battery?

The wireless carriers are not handling replacements. Instead, you’ll want to make an appointment at an Apple retail store or an Apple authorized service provider. You can also contact Apple’s technical support team.

Even if you think your iPhone is eligible, it will first be examined to ensure it’s eligible for the replacement. If your iPhone 6s has a cracked screen, that may need to be fixed first at a cost prior to getting a new battery, according to Apple.

What about all of my data?

You’ll want to make sure all of your data is backed up to the iCloud or iTunes. For the cloud, go to Settings, iCloud and make sure backup is turned on. Next, click “Backup now.”

For iTunes, connect your iPhone 6s, then choose the device on your computer and follow the necessary steps to complete the backup.
