A consumer protection group in Denmark is working to minimize Google’s practice of holding on to user data. Tænk, the Danish consumer council, has reported Google to the Danish Data Protection Agency (DDPA).

Their report claims Google is violating local personal data laws. It doesn’t believe the company should be keeping data for years. An investigating found data location and search info may be kept for 10 years.

Tænk thinks there’s no legitimate use of old data.

We do not believe that [Google] can provide better service by knowing what you randomly searched for eight years ago. – Tænk

Depending on the decision of the DDPA, this may turn into a full lawsuit. It’s believed Tænk has a fairly strong case.
