DB Networks Launches Industry’s First Artificial Intelligence-Based Agentless Database Activity Monitoring — Machine Learning Database Security Combined with Privileged Account Activity Monitoring Technology from CyberArk Better Protects Against Database Attacks and Eases Compliance
SAN DIEGO, Dec 14, 2016 — DB Networks®, a pioneer in machine learning based database security, today announced the industry’s first agentless database activity monitoring (DAM) solution based on artificial intelligence. DB Networks is combining its DBN-6300 database monitoring and security technology with the CyberArk Privileged Account Security Solution to strengthen organizations’ overall security posture with a next-generation DAM solution.
Now, DAM customers can achieve compliance monitoring and database security without operational impact — no agent software need to be installed or maintained on the database servers and monitoring is now done non-intrusively. Further, machine learning is utilized to automatically identify and alert on any suspicious, unusual, or abnormal access to sensitive data or critical systems.
DAMs are often used as a compensating control for compliance. For example, DAMs support Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance to improve the accuracy of financial reports, Payment Card Industry’s Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) for monitoring access to credit card-related information, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements for monitoring access to sensitive healthcare records. However, third-party DAM agents’ integration with Database Management Systems have long been an issue. When the DAM agent fails, the entire database can be brought off-line for an extended period of time.
Privileged account management, especially for databases, is critical for security and is also a well-established compliance requirement. The CyberArk Privileged Account Security Solution establishes a single point of control for privileged sessions and creates an indexed, tamper-resistant record of privileged sessions. With these capabilities, organizations can easily isolate, monitor, record and control privileged sessions on critical systems and databases, allowing security teams to immediately terminate suspicious privileged sessions and view full video playback of specific user sessions.
“DB Networks is delivering an innovative DAM solution that addresses important business requirements and emphasizes simplicity and data reliability,” said Adam Bosnian, executive vice president, global business development at CyberArk. “CyberArk provides a valuable check and balance for the DB Networks solution to help verify that network traffic is coming from a trusted source and database access aligns with internal policies. DB Networks’ commitment to adding additional layers of security for database protection that prioritize privileged account security is an important benefit to customers, and reflects the key tenets of the C3 Alliance.”
The agentless DAM’s deep protocol analysis of all Structured Query Language (SQL) activity is accomplished through DB Networks’ DBN-6300 technology. This technology also provides machine learning together with behavioral analysis to immediately and accurately alert on database policy violations and database attacks. This helps ensure sensitive data stores are not tampered with.
The agentless DAM supports Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Sybase database management systems. The agentless DAM operates non-intrusively and can even be deployed in conjunction with other vendor DAMs to provide an unprecedented level of database security.
“While database activity monitoring is necessary as a compensating control for compliance, many enterprises find the traditional implementation to be both costly and very complex,” said DB Networks’ Chairman and CEO Brett Helm. “The reason many databases operate unmonitored and unprotected is often because organizations lack easy-to-implement tools and trained staff. Our new agentless DAM with its machine learning together with comprehensive privileged account security has significantly simplified and enhanced database monitoring and security.”
DB Networks also announced today it has become a new member of the C3 Alliance, CyberArk’s global technology partner program that brings together enterprise software, IT security and service providers to build on the power of privileged account security to better protect customers from cyber threats.

About DB Networks®
DB Networks innovates database cybersecurity products. Its customers include the world’s largest financial institutions, healthcare providers, manufacturers, and governments. DB Networks technology non-intrusively assesses database infrastructures through deep protocol extraction, machine learning, and behavioral analysis. Customers gain insights by discovering all active databases, identifying tables being accessed, and the specific applications accessing the databases. In addition, analyzing application database access that deviates from the model of normal application behavior immediately identifies compromised credentials and database attacks. DB Networks is a privately held company headquartered in San Diego, Calif. For more information, call (800) 598-0450 or visit the company’s website.
