The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is suing D-Link over the company’s allegedly insufficient security practices for its routers, web cameras, and other products. In the lawsuit, D-Link is accused of not meeting security standards from 2007, which left its products open to attack.
D-Link didn’t encrypt passwords on its mobile app, it didn’t address a “command injection” flaw, and it used easily cracked login credentials for its camera software. All of those practices left consumers at greater risk.
As a result of Defendants’ failures, thousands of Defendants’ routers and cameras have been vulnerable to attacks that subject consumers’ sensitive personal information and local networks to a significant risk of unauthorized access, – FTC
In response, D-Link says it’ll fight the lawsuit.
D-Link Systems, Inc. will vigorously defend itself against the unwarranted and baseless charges made by the Federal Trade Commission, – D-Link
